Chaos Erupt in City as Rowdy Youth Impose New Speaker

There was drama at Kisumu County Assembly on Tuesday, September 10, as ward representatives sought to impeach their speaker.

Reports by K24 Digital disclosed that the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) traded blows in the House during a bid to install a new speaker.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, rowdy youth tried to force their way through the gate, yelling insults.

Things took a nasty turn when MCAs moved to replace Speaker Onyango Oloo, who is facing graft charges.

The local leaders took it a notch higher when they ejected Kisumu County Deputy Speaker Roy Samo from his seat, after he rejected the motion.

Later on, after the tensions eased, the MCAs eventually elected Kisumu North MCA, Elisha Oraro, as the new speaker.

The decision to replace Oloo was reached by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Oloo was arrested on Sunday, September 8, over a billion-shilling mall scandal, alongside former Lake Basin Development Authority Managing Director Peter Aguko and four others.

Their arrest was ordered by the Director of Public Prosectution (DPP) Noordin Haji.

According to the official records, the initial cost of the mall was set at Ksh2.5 billion but later adjusted upwards to Ksh4.1 billion.

Oloo is accused of receiving a Ksh17 million bribe to authorize irregularities in the building of the mall which led to the inflation of the cost from Sh2.1 billion to Sh4.1 billion.
