DP Ruto Comes Out Guns Blazing Over Nation's Kibra By-election Story

Deputy President William Ruto was at it again, this time picking a fight with Daily Nation over the cover story of the newspaper dated September 10, 2019.

The story that was titled 'Uhuru Caught Up in Raila, Ruto Battle for Kibra' irked the DP till he could not hold the issue in any more.

Ruto took to Twitter where he criticised the paper over what he termed as 'ugly shenanigans', asking the publication to credit Kenyans with some intelligence.

He stated that the by-election has over 20 candidates and since Jubilee has a candidate in the race, then the party and its leadership could not support any other aspirant.

"Jubilee's Mariga is among 20 others. How can anybody contemplate our party, party leadership and machinery supporting any other candidate? The media should spare us these ugly shenanigans. The narrative is not funny let alone being newsworthy. Credit Kenyans with some intelligence," the country's second in command tweeted.

This comes after the rumour that the Ruto had bulldozed his way to have football legend Macdonald Mariga handed the Jubilee ticket for Kibra mini-poll.

Mariga will face ODM candidate Benard 'Imran' Okoth who is considered Raila Odinga's man.

DP Ruto's sentiments came just a few hours after Odinga told the ruling party not to expect an easy time at the ballot.

ODM declared Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as the head of campaigns. The legislator made it clear that he was aiming his sights squarely on securing a victory.

Others who have been cleared to vie for the seat are ANC's Eliud Owalo, Ford Kenya's Khamisi Butichi, Malaseh Hamida of the United Green Movement, Editar Ochieng of Ukweli Party (associated with activist Boniface Mwangi) and Fridah Kerubo Kingara an independent candidate.

Narc-Kenya is also expected to sponsor a female aspirant.

Two hopefuls running as independents were turned back by IEBC for lack of necessary documents to support their application.

Update: Jubilee candidate Macdonald Mariga was on Tuesday, September 10 blocked from vying as he was not a registered voter.
