Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Thursday, September 12, taunted her secret admirers by bragging about her husband Kamotho Waiganjo, claiming no Kirinyaga man approached her.
Speaking after the opening of Kagumo Market, where she was reportedly booed, she addressed remarks from people who faulted her for getting married to a man from Murang’a County.
"Those complaining that I got married in Murang’a, is there anyone from Kirinyaga who asked me out and I refused?” she asked to the applause of the crowd.
“Since no one from Kirinyaga asked me out, what was I to do? Honestly, are people from Murang’a bad? All the same, I’m still working for you, the people of Kirinyaga," she assured the crowd.
During an interview with KTN’s Tony Gachoka in August 2019, the governor had stated that Kamotho was very instrumental in helping her wade through the allegations of corruption that had been levelled against her when she was the Devolution CS.
She was accused of overseeing massive theft of public funds at the National Youth (NYS).
Kamotho also swooped in to help the governor beat former Cabinet Minister Martha Karua at her own game.
Karua had mounted a court battle, claiming that Waiguru was not validly elected during the 2017 General Election.
Speaking about her husband's role in the court case, the governor was thankful that Waiganjo was part of the team and therefore, the cost wasn't too much to bear.
"Luckily for me, my legal team didn't quite charge me too much, partly because my husband was also on the panel," she explained.
