Citizen TV Journalist Bags Prestigious Award Amid Death Threats

Citizen TV political journalist, Stephen Letoo on Friday, September 13, scooped the Maa Male Media personality of the year.

According to Citizen Digital, Letoo trounced five other nominees at the award ceremony held at Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi. 

The elated Letoo who spoke to Citizen Digital on Saturday, September 14, opened up about his secret to success.

“Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday,” Letoo advised.

The political journalist was honoured for his excellence in the journalism industry and his contribution to the empowerment and development of the Maa community.

Royal Media Services also scooped an award for the Maa Female Media personality of the year, Risper Nanai from Viusasa

The Maa awards ceremony is a premier exclusive event that recognizes achievements of outstanding individuals, groups, organizations and businesses of the Maa Community in Kenya and Tanzania.

Barely 10 days ago, the Citizen TV Reporter on Friday, September 6, stated that he was fearing for his life, after receiving several threatening messages.

Letoo who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, disclosed that he reported the case to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) branch in Narok.

Letoo narrated that his coverage of the second phase of the controversial Mau evictions occasioned the death threats from unidentified disgruntled people interested in the matter.

"It is true, my life is in danger, my home was attacked in the village yesterday, now I'm fearing that they are coming for me," he disclosed at the time.

He added that he was not taking the matter lightly and was already taking serious precautions.

"I am going to the CID headquarters at 2 pm," he had divulged.
