ODM Legislators Abandon Raila in Kibra By-election [VIDEO]

The race to inherit the late Ken Okoth's Kibra parliamentary seat is set to go down to the wire, after ODM party's Nairobi MCAs, on Monday, September 16, switched camps and backed Musalia Mudavadi's candidate, Eliud Owalo.

Kibra parliamentary seat was declared vacant by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after Okoth succumbed to cancer.

Speaking at a public rally over the weekend, Kileleshwa county representative and minority leader Elias Otieno had announced that he would support the Amani National Congress party's candidate.

"Owalo is the man who can bring a lot of changes in this area, not these other small boys who are hungry for power like of Imran," Otieno declared.

The ward representatives reportedly rallied and snubbed party leader, Raila Odinga, who had called for a meeting at his Karen home on Saturday, to strategise on how to reclaim the Kibra parliamentary seat in the upcoming mini-polls.

This controversial move is in direct defiance to Raila's public declaration that the party would be backing Imran Okoth for the Kibra by-election.

Otieno and his fellow legislators pointed out Raila's indifference to the late Ken Okoth's cremation as totally unacceptable.

"We the ODM MCAs from Nairobi have decided to support Eliud Owalo because the other one can't be a leader since he took away our son's body," the minority leader declared during his impassioned speech.

Mudavadi's candidate is set to face up against Imran, Editar Ochieng of Boniface Mwangi's Ukweli party and Jubilee party's McDonald Mariga.

The jubilee candidate was, on Monday, September 16, cleared by the IEBC to vie for the Kibra Parliamentary seat.
