AU Special envoy Raila Odinga on Monday, September 16, reunited with an ally, Kembo Mohadi, who is one of two vice presidents of Zimbabwe.

The two met in Uganda where Mohadi was en route to Juba, South Sudan while Raila is expected to grace the opening of the United Nations Commission for Europe offices in Kampala.

On June 23, 2018, Kembo survived an explosion at a ZANU-PF campaign rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo, the country's second-largest city.

The Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa had just addressed supporters when the blast occurred killing two people and injuring 50 people.

Vice-President Mohadi suffered a leg injury. Another vice-president, Constantino Chiwenga, received bruises to his face.

The blast was termed by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation as an assassination attempt.

Kembo was airlifted to South Africa for emergency treatment, the state-owned Herald newspaper reported at the time.

He briefly served as the Minister of Defence, Security and War Veterans in 2017.

Previously he was Minister of State for National Security in the President's Office from 2015 to 2017 and Minister of Home Affairs from 2002 to 2015.

He was appointed as the Vice-President of the ZANU–PF political party on 23 December 2017 and sworn in as Second Vice-President of Zimbabwe on 28 December 2017.
