Fire Razes Down Govt Finance Office

A fire broke out in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, September 25, leaving a government building burned to a crisp.

Confirming the incident, Busia County Communications Director Winnstone Mbada stated that they are yet to establish the cause of the fire that left their finance offices in total ruin.

"The situation has been controlled. We are working closely with relevant authorities to establish the cause of the fire," he disclosed to the Daily Nation.

According to various reports, the fire is believed to have broken out at around 2 a.m.

Reports revealed that a recently purchased fire engine was a stone-throw away as the fire engulfed the offices.

The county firefighters managed to quell the fire which had already destroyed a larger section of the office which housed the county’s financial documents.

Addressing the press outside the office premises, Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said the incident was reported by a section of county employees.

Busia County Commissioner Jacob Narengo said the DCI team were at the scene to gather forensic evidence to establish the cause of the fire.

In a similar incident, the Kitui County Finance and Economic Planning offices were also gutted down by fire on July 22, 2019.
