Governor Narrates How He Snatched Wife From Another Man at a Dance

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi tickled the audience during an April 22, 2018, Churchill Show live recording held in Meru when he shared the story on how he met his wife, Priscilla Murungi.

Murungi, who has served as a Member of Parliament and a cabinet minister, is the second governor of Meru after beating Peter Munya in the 2017 elections.

"Wangu tulikutana kwa dance. Alikuwa ameletwa na mtu mwengine. I think I outdanced the whoever...iyo ingine ni history (I met my wife at a local dance. She was in the company of another man who had brought her with him. I outdanced the companion to my wife)," the governor said.

Murungi also roused the crowd when he said that Meru men find it difficult to tell their women that they love them when actually their women want to be told so.

The governor who was born in 1952 also surprised the audience when he told them that he grew up in a detention camp during the colonial days and that he was raised by his mother since his father was in hiding as a member of the Mau Mau.

On how active politics has been for him, Murungi tickled the audience again when he said his joining politics was accidental. He was a member of Jaramogi’s Ford Kenya party and since his party had no candidate in South Imenti Constituency, he was asked to vie on its ticket.

He took up the challenge and ended up as the winner in the 1993 elections.

Also unknown to the audience is the close relationship comedian Daniel 'Churchill' Ndambuki and Muringi share. Apparently, the two at one time worked together at a sales and marketing company at different levels.

As if he was a comedian himself, Murungi dropped another blow of laughter when he told the crowd that sleep is his best medicine when it comes to the things that bring him enjoyment.

Murungi who is an accomplished lawyer is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi, Chuka Highschool, Alliance Highschool and Kionyo Primary School. The governor is also among politicians who went into exile during President Moi’s regime.
