Top Athlete Suspended Over Doping Scam

Kenyan athlete Vincent Yator has been handed a temporary suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit after tests detected the presence of prohibited substances in his system.

Daily Nation reported on Wednesday, October 2, that the athlete was found to have tested positive for banned substances, in contravention to the IAAF rules.

The tests recorded the presence of prohibited Testosterone, Prednisone and Prednisolone in his body.

Yator had emerged the top athlete at the Paris Half Marathon 2015 edition, among other African honours.

He also won the hearts of many after he bounced back from a nasty accident to finish third, six minutes behind Titus Ekiru (2:09.01), Reuben Kiprop (2:12.59) in an all-Kenyan podium sweep in Honolulu.

He then went ahead to finish fourth at the Gold Coast Marathon in Australia, in July 2019, two spots behind compatriot Barnabas Kiptum, who emerged second.

He joins the list of recently suspended Kenyan athletes, among them Joyce Chepkirui, the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Africa 10,000 metres champion and Jacob Kibet Kendagor who in 2017 came second in the Hamburg and Istanbul Marathons.

The IAAF had recently announced that it was monitoring some Kenyan athletes whose had been flagged as suspicious.

Kenyan 5,000-meter runners Michael Kibet and Daniel Simiyu were also not allowed to compete in the ongoing Doha marathon in Qatar after failing to undergo the required number of precompetition doping tests
