Protesting Police Officers Destroy Businesses [VIDEO]

Residents of Kayole, Nairobi were left counting losses after police officers went on the rampage, destroying alcohol in bars on the night of Sunday, October 6.

The officers who broke alcohol bottles in bars were said to be protesting the arrest of their colleagues in connection to the Ksh6 million robbery at a lodging in Eastleigh.

In a CCTV footage shared online and on media houses the police were seen ordering revellers to go down on their knees with arms up in the air.

Citizen TV reported that the officers stormed the bars holding torches as the lights had been switched off.

According to witnesses, the officers arrested some people carrying them shoulder high while singing 'wamlambez and wamnyonyez', a famous song by Sailors Gang music group.

The officers left the scene for a minute and the scared revellers locked themselves inside but the rogue police broke in.

The rogue policemen then grabbed drinks from the counters and smashed them on the walls, leaving pieces of broken glass lying dangerously on the floor.

Bar owners headed to Kayole Police Station to report the matter but to their surprise, the officer on duty claimed that the desk did not have an occurrence book (OB) to record their complaints.

Witnesses further alleged that those arrested were never taken to the Kayole Police Station which is closer but rather booked at the Kasarani Police Station.

One of them went ahead to state that even at Kasarani Police Station, they were not allowed to see those arrested.

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Police IG Hilary Mutyambai stated that the matter was under investigation and the officers involved would face the full force of the law.
