Ruto Fails to Deliver on Promise After Dining in Woman's House

In November 2018, Deputy President William Ruto toured Osiri gold mines at Nyatike Constituency in Migori County.

The DP was launching the last mile electricity connectivity project where he met locals including a 35-year-old woman from Muhuru Bay who made Ruto a midday meal.

Janet Adhiambo told The Standard on Friday, October 11, that she was honoured by the DP's visit, "we were blessed to have DP Ruto visit and eat lunch with us."

Adhiambo claimed the DP gave her Ksh30,000 to boost her small-scale business and promised to put up a brick house for her.

However, according to the publication, Ruto was yet to act on the promise eight months later. Adhiambo indicated that she thought the deputy president might have forgotten about his pledge.

The mother of five claimed that she had unsuccessfully tried to send Ruto a message concerning the promise.

"I have tried in vain to reach the deputy president through local leaders, including Muhuru Bay MCA Hevron Mahirah," the mother of five told the publication.

Confirming Adhiambo's claims, Mahirah affirmed that Adhiambo contacted him and asked the lawmaker to help her reach the DP.

The MCA also added that the DP promised the women in the constituency Ksh1 million to boost their businesses.

"A promise is a debt, I hope that everything promised by a leader to his people will be delivered,"  he stated.
