Ruto and Mudavadi Clash at Khalwale's Wife's Memorial

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) was turned into a political battlefield when Deputy President William Ruto and ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi went head to head during the requiem mass of Adelaide Shikanga, wife to former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.

The Standard reported on Friday, October 11, that Ruto called on the two leaders to support Jubilee Party's candidate for the Kibra by-election as he was from their region.

Ruto called on the ANC leader and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula to show unity by supporting McDonald Mariga.

"I have wanted to meet Mudavadi and Wetang'ula to agree to work together especially in supporting one of their own (Mariga) in the Kibra by-election. This should be the beginning of a unified Luhya community," Ruto told the mourners.

He noted that the two leaders had failed to unite their supporters to vote for one leader.

Mudavadi, who also attended the mass, dismissed Ruto's invitation and maintained that he would not form a pact with the deputy president.

He insisted that his name would be on the ballot in 2022 and that he was the ideal presidential candidate.

"As we gather here united as one to mourn the demise of Khalwale's wife despite being in different political affiliations, this should be the spirit that should guide us to the future and make Mudavadi president," the ANC leader disclosed.

Mudavadi claimed that the Jubilee government was at fault in handling corruption and that it was killing the economy.

"As much we may say that I should work with leaders from other regions, those leaders must be of good reputation, whose image is not tainted with scandals related to corruption," he added.

Ruto and Mudavadi once worked together during the 2007 General Election when both of them supported ODM Party leader Raila Odinga's bid for the presidency.
