Joho Blasts His Critics Over Likoni Ferry Tragedy

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Friday, October 11, took a jab at the people who had castigated him over the Likoni Ferry accident.

The governor, who was speaking to the public, criticised those who claimed he had no power to avert the accident.

He further noted that after the accident there was little he could do but wait for the divers to try and retrieve the bodies.

"We had a tragedy at the ferry and people said a lot, but all we can say is, after a tragedy, people with respect and culture pray for the affected and console them," Joho stated.

Governor Joho commended the military personnel and all those involved in the retrieval mission, noting that they had risked their lives in the process.

The county had come under fire after he failed to show up at the scene of the accident for several days.

Netizens claimed that the governor had failed to show compassion to the affected family.

Joho was at the scene after the vehicle was retrieved accompanied by top Government officials and the Kenya Navy commander to show support for the deceased's family.

Residents of Mombasa were not to be left behind as they took to the sidelines to bear witness to the retrieval. Others opted to take to and fro rides on the ferry to ensure they did not miss out on the action.

The Kenya Police were on-site and ensured the operation was successful maintaining minimal or no interruption by locals.
