Broke Ex-Legislator Cries For Help

Joseph Ndung'u Njogu, a former member of the County Assembly of Murang'a is a man trailed by sadness.

His woes begun in 2017 after the general elections when he failed to defend his ward rep seat.

Ndung'u who represented Ichagaki Ward in Maraga Constituency between 2013 and 2017 slid into depression after his constituents voted him out of office.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Ndung'u stated that after five years in the County Assembly, he only had an incomplete building on a parcel of land to boast off.

Ndung'u who sunk Sh1.2 million shillings in the 2017 campaigns added that he also parted with his electronics shop along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi to finance the 2013 campaigns that saw him represent the people of Ichagaki ward.

Njogu blamed his electorates for the financial and mental ditch he found himself in.

“I worked for the people relentlessly but they voted me out. I will never again seek any elective post because one is deceived by the electorate with fake promises," Ndung'u lamented.

A regretful Ndung'u lamented that his businesses would have been thriving had he not sought an elective seat

He credits his wife and father who urged him to accept his new status and sought employment as a storekeeper in Nairobi after a former colleague came to his rescue.

Initially, Ndung'u had planned to get a job as a driver at the County Assembly where he served in, but a friend advised him to seek employment elsewhere to avoid trauma and ridicule from the people of Murang'a.

Ndungu who revealed that his salary of Ksh500,000 was spent on his electorates and his new status of mheshimiwa, is ready to take up a job as a personal driver of any Kenyan willing to employ him.
