Ex-Minister Appointed to Govt Board

Former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe is the latest high profile Kenyan to land a government job.

Energy CS Charles Keter appointed the former minister for Information and Communications to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Commission (EPRA).

Kagwe, who also served as Mukurweini MP joined EPRA to replace Macharia Irungu on the board.

His appointment was gazetted on October 16, 2019, and he was to start in his new post immediately.

Kagwe,61, who is the son-in-law to the late Interior Minister John Michuki was appointed just a few days after the appointment of another former Nyeri legislator that sparked outrage from Kenyans.

Former Othaya MP Mary Wambui,69, was appointed by Labour CS Ukur Yattani to chair the National Employment Authority.

Her appointment was met with anger and contempt from many Kenyans who claimed she was not qualified to hold the position.

Another controversial appointment was done on October 16, by ICT CS Joe Mucheru. He appointed a deceased man to the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

The late Robert Kochalle was re-appointed despite his death on May 28, 2018.

KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua defended CS Mucheru after the erroneous appointment.

"The board presented the notification to the ministry for replacement and inadvertently he was reappointed. It was not CS Mucheru's mistake at all," read an excerpt of Mutua's post.
