Suspicious Bag Found at Nairobi Supermarket, Police Rush to Scene

On Thursday, October 17, police officers rushed to Naivas Supermarket along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi after a suspicious bag was left at the luggage deposit area. 

The bag had been abandoned at the supermarket on October 16, 2019, by a man who is yet to be identified.

“The bag containing the items had been deposited at Naivas Supermarket along Moi Avenue/Kenyatta Avenue on October 16, 2019, in the evening by an unknown male customer in box number 49 who never picked the same as expected,” a police report obtained by Nairobi News read.

According to the publication, the man was said to have vanished into the streets after depositing the bag.

Upon opening the luggage, police found a firearm, serial number FN 10850, a Lenovo Pad laptop and a police officer’s certificate of appointment.

After further scrutiny of the items, the officers confirmed that the items belonged to Irene Ndunge Kyama a bodyguard attached to Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene.

Police processed the scene and took the pistol to custody pending ballistic examination.

After the recovery of the gun, Kyama who was in police custody for two days was released.

She had claimed that she was on official business along Muindi Mbingu Street in Nairobi on Tuesday, October 15 when she lost the gun.
