How Armed Gang Duped Police After Being Caught Red-handed

A group of seemingly smart thugs slipped through the fingers of police officers in Nairobi's Jericho area moments after police arrived at the scene of the crime.

The Standard Digital reported, on Tuesday, October 22, that the gang, which was caught terrorising Jericho residents on the night of Sunday, October 20, dropped a Ceska pistol with 12 bullets to divert attention before disappearing into the darkness.

Their plan, however, worked since none of the gang members got captured.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo disclosed that the police did not arrest any suspects during the pursuit.

The authorities were responding to a tip-off that the gang was terrorising Kenyans in the estate.

"We hope to know more on the crimes this weapon has committed and those behind it," The paper quoted Ndolo.

Investigations into the matter were launched with the police also following leads into crimes associated with the recovered weapon.

The latest manifestation of apparent police incompetence brought back memories of a 2018 incident where 6 remandees escaped by jumping out of a moving police vehicle in Migori County.

The remandees were being transported from the Rongo Law Courts to Migori GK Prison.

Two of them were later re-arrested after a rigorous search over several hours deep in a plantation.
