Uhuru's Warm Message to Millionaire Teacher After Making Kenya Proud

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, October 24, sent a message to Edwin Ademba, a mathematics teacher who was feted in the inaugural African Union Continental Teacher Prize.

In a message posted on his Twitter page, the president congratulated Ademba for his well-deserved achievement.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of congratulations to Edwin Ademba, the Mathematics and Chemistry teacher at Asumbi Girls High School in Homa Bay County," read an excerpt of the president's message.

Further, the head of state expressed his delight at Ademba's fete, barely months after Teacher Peter Tabichi was crowned the world's best teacher in the 2019 Global Teacher Prize.

"With the latest accolade, Kenya now holds both the global and continental best teacher awards," he added.

Ademba was awarded as the best teacher after he beat 50 other competitors in the ceremony held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He received Ksh1 million at the ceremony held at the AU Headquarters in Ethiopia’s capital.

Some of the qualities that made Ademba clinch the award include; encouraging desirable behaviors; engaging in activities and networks that enhance the social and cultural value of learning as well as helping students achieve their long-term career goals, by organizing engagement with relevant agencies and information.

The now-famous Teacher Tabichi of Keriko Secondary School in Nakuru who put Kenyan teachers on the global map for this year is a Mathematics and Physics teacher and the African to win the global prize that also comprised a whooping Ksh100 million cash prize.
