Jubilee Governors Send Critical Message to Uhuru Over BBI

On Tuesday, October 29, a section of Mt Kenya Governors called for a press conference in Nairobi and gave a statement concerning the release of the BBI report.

The governors, led by Francis Kimemia of Nyandarua, urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to expedite the release of the report.

"We are aware of the anxiety the release of this report has caused among Kenyans, and we urge members of the public to be patient until the contents of the report are made public," read part of the statement signed by the governors.

The county bosses pledged to support the initiative and added that they would endorse plans to increase resource allocation to the devolved units.

However, the governors did not share the same opinion with Mt Kenya legislators who vowed to shoot down BBI's report.

“We are concerned about the under-representation of our people at all levels compared to the population and the number of voters in the region,” Mt Kenya MPs argued.

The Mt Kenya governors asked MPs to be patient and wait until the particulars of the report are made public.

"BBI champions for inclusivity and for the fight against tribalism, those talking about it and raising political tension over the report are pouring water on the good intention Raila and Uhuru have for Kenya," the governors stated.

Embu Governor Martin Wambora, his Meru counterpart Kiraitu Murungi, and Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi flanked Governor Kimemia who read the statement.
