DCI Kinoti Severely Punishes Officer Who Used His name to Con Kenyans

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti, on Monday, October 28, took action against a rogue police officer who allegedly used his name to con Kenyans.

According to People Daily, Kinoti fired the officer, Corporal Moses Omondi Gangire, who was attached to Ruiru DCI office, after he used his name to extort money from the public.

Gangire was arraigned in court on Tuesday, October 29, in a Kitui court alongside a civilian, over the offence.

Appearing before Kitui Principal Magistrate Johnstone Munguti, the two pleaded not guilty and were released on a Ksh500,000 cash bail each.

“The officer and his civilian friend, have been collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public while posing as Kinoti’s agents,” confirmed head of the Special Crime Prevention Unit Pius Gitari.

In December 2018, DCI exposed another group of impostors who was defrauding Kenyans using Kinoti's name.

The agency, at the time, directed Kenyans who had lost money in the scheme to report to DCI headquarters or any police station.

“We appeal to anyone who may have lost money to the conmen to report to DCI Headquarters or at any police station countrywide to assist us in our ongoing investigations on the same.

“Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” the tweet cautioned then.
