ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday, September 30, laid bare the plan that the ODM party hatched to ensure that it retained Kibra seat in the by-election slated for November 7.
Talking to Tony Gachoka on PointBlank on KTN News, Sifuna revealed that the party had undertaken strict measures to ensure that the elections were held in a free and fair manner and that the results reflected the will of the people.
"What we have done at the orange party is that we've decided to learn from all the mistakes we have done before. We have reviewed all our performances as a party in the previous elections with a view to finding a way going forward," he stated.
Sifuna told Gachoka that the party had resolved to put the highest levels of vigilance on the ground to ensure that no foul play takes place undetected.
"We have put our members of parliament as super agents in all the 24 polling stations in Kibera. We have also called our 183 MCAs from all over the country to man the polling stations as the elections are going on," Sifuna claimed.
While acknowledging that it was clear that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had the mandate to deal with electoral malpractices, he stated that in the event that the IEBC fails to act, they would take matters in their own hands.
"As citizens, we have powers to conduct what is called a citizen's arrest. If we see anyone distributing money to buy ID cards or bribe voters on election day, we will invoke our rights as citizens and conduct what is called a citizen's arrest," Sifuna assured.
He also stated that the party had arranged for one more mega-rally to be held on Sunday, November 3, and a roadshow the following day, which would be the last day of the campaigns.
He also told Gachoka that all through the week, the ODM party would be conducting town hall meetings to meet the interested parties in the constituency with a view to strengthening their political hold on the area.
He assured the ODM supporters of vigilance from the side of legislators and urged them to vote peacefully and follow the guidelines given by the IEBC to ensure flawless polls.
