Lupita Weeps During Interview [VIDEO]

Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o could not hold back her tears during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The 36-year-old actress was asked to read out a prayer from her book titled Sulwe when she broke down.

Lupita told Oprah that she would say the prayer to herself when she felt unattractive. While she was reading it out, she wept.

She then grabbbed a napkin and used it to wipe her tears before proceeding with the interview.

In the book, Lupita narrates the challenges that the dark-skinned girl encounters lessons that children learn and then spends the rest of her life unlearning.

When she launched the book on October 1, 2019, she claimed that her inspiration was drawn from not feeling beautiful.

"This is a story for little ones, but no matter the age I hope it serves as an inspiration for everyone to walk with joy in their own skin.

"I put on the TV and only saw pale skin. I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned," Lupita stated.

The book portrays a powerful, moving picture about colorism, self-esteem, and learning that true beauty comes from within.
