46 Tablets, 1 Laptop Stolen in Mosobecho Primary School

46 tablets and a laptop that were recently supplied by the Jubilee government at Mosobecho Primary School in Nandi County have been stolen.

Suspected burglars are said to have accessed the compound on Saturday night and broke into the room where the tablets were being stored.

According to the institution's headteacher, he was called by the security guard who informed him that the school had been raided.

“The thieves broke into the strong room where the gadgets were kept and made away with them on Saturday night. They also broke into the staff room and head teacher's office,” stated the school head John Keino.

Confirming the incident, Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner George Matundura promised to conduct investigations to apprehend the suspects.

“Footprints led us to a short-cut through the school fence near the main road where the thieves seemed to have parked a vehicle that was suspected to have been used to ferry the gadgets," said Matundura.

He urged residents with information regarding the theft to relay the same to authorities and advised schools to be more vigilant and curb security lapses that could lead to such incidents.

The institution's watchman has since been arrested as investigations into the burglary continue.

The tablets were supplied in November 2016, with the school being among the first beneficiaries of the laptop project by the Jubilee government.
