A police officer was on Monday, November 4, arrested by his colleagues after he was caught attempting to rob a Nairobi entertainment joint.
According to a report by K24 Digital, it all started when Constable Elly Nyakomita, attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Embu, and a friend, Seth Odhiambo of G4S Security, entered H.E.N.U Club in Obama estate off Kangundo Road for a drink.
After allegedly having one too many, the two reportedly produced handcuffs and demanded money from the club's barmaid threatening to take her into police custody.
It was at that moment that one of the club's proprietors alerted other officers who were on patrol around the area who responded promptly.
They then arrested the two.
Quoting a senior officer from the region, the paper detailed that the police had launched investigations into the incident.
“The investigations are to establish if they had intended to commit robbery or they were just acting out of drunkenness. Drunkenness is, however, not an excuse for crime,” stated the police officer.
This came barely a week after another police officer was linked to the brutal murder of a mother and her daughter-in-law outside their homestead in Machakos County.
The officer was arrested after he was allegedly linked to the guns that were used to kill two women in the county on Saturday, October 26.
The two were killed as the mother was opening the gate for her son Fredrick Mwangi and his wife Purity Wanjiru, who were arriving from work.
Two men riding on a boda boda opened fire at them, shooting the mother and daughter-in-law in the head while Fredrick escaped with a bullet in his leg.
