Mt Kenya Leaders' Next Plan After Disputing Census Results [VIDEO]

Several Mt Kenya leaders were angered by the results of the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census and have planned a meeting to analyse the data delivered to President Uhuru Kenyatta by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.

On Monday, October 4, KNBS Director General Zachary Mwangi disclosed that the total enumerated population was 47,564,296 with the males at 23,548,056 and females at 24,014, 716.

However, Central Kenya leaders including Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, his Tharaka Nithi counterpart, Muthomi Njuki and Kandara MP Alice Wahome were irked by the results which they dubbed controversial.

Muranga County had 1,560,640 people, Tharaka Nithi County had 393,177 and Meru County had 1,545,714.

On Monday, November 4, Wahome took to social media to debunk Murang'a County's tally, comparing the 587,126 registered voters and 1.056 million residents.

"We should immediately initiate an investigation. We may meet as Mt Kenya delegates to appropriately analyse and investigate the data, then we shall give out our response and direction.

"It seems that they have cooked up the data just like they did in the previous census (2009). It also seems that those who cooked the data again in 1999 are still in office and are responsible for messing up the process. I believe many Kenyans will reject these results.

Wahome lamented that the government had tied its projects on the census results. National resources are allocated according a region's population and the current results worried her.

According to a report by The Standard, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, his Tharaka Nithi counterpart, Muthomi Njuki threatened to launch a legal battle against the results.

The two informed the publication that the results differed with the estimated tally on the ground.

"We would like to petition KNBS to revert our people who have been wrongly placed in Isiolo, to their rightful areas," Murungi stated in a statement released by his Chief of Staff Gideon Kimathi.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria differed with his Central Kenya colleagues. The MP, while speaking with Kenyans.co.ke on phone, stated that he had accepted the results as they were the true indication Kenya's population.
