Doubts lingered over whether Jubilee's McDonald Mariga would make an appearance in Kibra and vote for himself, similar to his competitors Orange Democratic Movement's Imran Okoth and Amani National Congress' Eliud Owalo.
On Thursday, November 7, Imran Okoth is scheduled to vote at the Old Kibra Primary School in his quest to retain the seat that was declared vacant upon the demise of his brother Ken Okoth.
Mariga, however, will be counting upon his followers to help him create an upset in the ODM dominated zone, as he was registered as a voter in Starehe Constituency, a representative from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) disclosed to Kenyans.co.ke.
"Once one is registered as a voter in a different constituency, he can only change his registration during the registration window. Your name is in the voter register at the polling station you registered in," the IEBC official informed Kenyans.co.ke.
IEBC laws do not bar any candidate from contesting in an area they are not registered in.
ANC's Eliud Owalo has already voted at the Old Kibra Primary School polling station where he was accompanied by party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Mariga was, on Monday, September 16, cleared by IEBC to vie for the Kibra Parliamentary seat.
Mariga's candidature for the Kibra by-election had been marred with controversy after the Kibra returning officer declared that his name was missing in the voter's register.
Late Ken Okoth's Wife, Monica Okoth, and Raila's daughter Winnie Odinga are among the notable names to have already voted at Kibra.
The Kibra voter register has been a bone of contention over the past months with ODM suing the IEBC over the register, claiming that there was a plan to rig the elections.
On Wednesday, November 6, the High Court in Nairobi gave orders that the IEBC furnishes ODM with the complete Kibra voter register, hours to the much-anticipated Kibra by-election.
