Deputy President William Ruto was infuriated and angered after investing his time, energy and resources in a by-election which he lost devastatingly. According to a report by Daily Nation on Saturday, November 9, Ruto allegedly cancelled all planned meetings in the aftermath of the Kibra by-election.
Ruto had scheduled to meet his close aids who had assured him of a win or a tightly contested case in what analysts termed as the most expensive by-election in Kenyas history. In one of the campaign rallies, McDonald Mariga splashed Ksh 50,000 on a piece of artwork in Kibra.
A close aid of the DP revealed to Nation that in retaliation, the DP called off meetings with his aides, who were on their way to his posh Karen residence, to analyse the outcome of the by-election.
"He feels wasted and drained after the loss. He changed his mind and called to say he'd not be receiving any visitors since it was getting late. He was in a foul mood," the aide divulged.
Nandi Hills MP, Alfred Keter, an anti-Ruto MP alleged that Ruto splashed billions in Kibra.
"I met my colleagues MPs who are in the tanga tanga squad, they were mourning and they said their boss was very mad with them for failing to deliver in Kibra even after using Ksh1.2 billion for the by-election, which is equivalent to Ksh 109,000 per vote for the 11,000 votes Jubilee garnered," Keter claimed.
Ruto's anger was vividly expressed when he blasted his party members who refused to back Jubilee's McDonald Mariga, and supported Raila Odinga's candidate Imran Okoth.
"We have demonstrated unprecedented resolve in the face of many odds to proudly double our presence in a territory otherwise considered a no go zone and shaming those who betrayed our leader and party," Ruto tore into Kirinyaga Governor Waiguru, Jubilee Nominated MP Maina Kamanda and Gender CAS Rachael Shebesh.
However, Ruto's foot soldiers, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali played coy with reports of Ruto cancelling off the scheduled meetings.
"The instruction we got was to remain in the polling stations and closely monitor vote counting to the end," Khalwale stated.
"We are yet to convene a meeting for a post-mortem on how we performed as a party in the Kibra by-election," Washiali added.
Digital Strategist, Dennis Itumbi also took to social media to defend DP William Ruto, while contradicting with Khalwale's sentiments. According to Itumbi, the meeting took place.
"That's fake news. For the record, the DP was with the team. Uwongo Mtupu! (Pure lies)," Itumbi lashed out.
