DCI Kinoti Clashes With Speaker Muturi Over Leaked Video

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti on Monday, November 11, appeared in Parliament where he went head-on with National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Kinoti who was appearing before a parliamentary committee to shed light on an alleged letter summoning four MPs linked to a leaked pornographic video reportedly involving Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.

Kinoti expressed frustration over the stalling of the case and disclosed that some MPs were not co-operating with detectives.

"The case has stalled and it would be better if expedited and it is up to MPs to explain why they didn't honour the summons. They defied our summons," he stated.

He added that the MPs didn't record statements due to their belief that they were above the law.

On his part, Speaker Muturi explained that the investigating officer did not use the right channels to get the legislators involved.

He faulted the DCI's approach of seeking the assistance of the clerk of the National Assembly to summon the MPs.

"The clerk would have breached his authority by writing to MPs notifying them that they have been summoned. The clerk is our employee, and he was not compelled to assist the DCI in investigations as he would not be actively involved in the investigations," Muturi explained.

He further asked to know how the detectives arrived at the four names which the DCI refused to disclose.

The speaker further advised Kinoti to take personal initiative to investigate the case to which the DCI responded that he wasn't in the habit of interfering with ongoing investigations.
