Babu Owino's Comments on Waiguru Ruffle Feathers, Forced to Apologise

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was on Monday, November 11, forced to issue an apology after his sensational messages on Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru ruffled some feathers.

During a celebratory event on Sunday, November 10, in Kibra, the lawmaker insinuated that Waiguru and her Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu had supported ODM candidate Benard Okoth because former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's bedroom was hot.

"Today at thanksgiving rally at Kibra Constituency. Mama Ngilu and Ann Waiguru came to our bedroom because Baba (Raila) is a performer and they wanted to enjoy and have fun in our bedroom, that’s why the bedroom ilikuwa moto. (flaming hot)," Owino sensationally stated.

A section of Kenyans, however, understood the message differently and hit back at the lawmaker forcing him to apologise.

"My attention has been drawn to the different opinions on my speech in our victory rally in Kibra yesterday. I wish to take this opportunity to correct any misunderstanding amongst the public on the meaning I wished to convey. My words were metaphorical in nature hence should not be misconstrued.

"H.E. Charity Ngilu and H.E. Ann Waiguru are political trailblazers for women and serve as important points of reference for the potential of women leaders in Kenyan society," stated Owino.

"I look forward to a fruitful and meaningful political journey ahead working hand in hand with these two respectable ladies," he continued.

A number of his supporters had displayed displeasure with his comments with others taking Owino's words literally.

"I pity the people you represent in parliament. You need to go see the doctor for medication. How do you utter such words in public?" Questioned James Larmoi.

"Kenya my country...Always amazed at the phrases and illustrations used in Kenya's political dialogues... Anyway proudly Kenyan, always Kenyan, no matter what," declared Alice Diang'a.
