Babu Owino Leaks His WhatsApp Messages With Matiang'i

Embakasi MP Babu Owino on Monday, November 11, leaked his WhatsApp messages with the Inspector-General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

The messages posted by the lawmaker on his social media pages, show him trying to get point their attention to a viral video of a student Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) being roughed up by police officers calling upon them to take action.

"Good evening, kindly do something about these police officers who beat up a student at Jkuat today," read the message to the Interior CS.

"Hello sir, look at how our officers beat up a student at JKUAT. Kindly do something. You should condemn it cause they are giving the police service a bad image," read another message to Mutyambai.

In the viral video, policemen could be seen brutally beating up a student. They clobbered him, as some of the officers even went to the extent of stomping on the student's head.

The Jkuat student's governing council had prior issued a notice of the protests. The council had revealed that the protests would be carried out in a peaceful manner outside the university's Gate B.

Matiang'i has since addressed disturbing video showing the extent of police brutality.

Taking to his Twitter, the CS stated that he was equally concerned by the conduct of the officers while quelling the protests by the students.

"I have observed the events at JKUAT today with profound concern. The use of force by police is clearly outlined in the National Police Standing Orders.

He added that "I have spoken to the IG and we both agree that firm and decisive action shall be taken against any officer who used excessive force, within the next 24 hours."
