Mariga Warms Hearts After Returning to Kibra Despite Loss [PHOTOS]

On Monday, November 11, 2019, McDonald Mariga visited some of the victims of the Kibra by-election chaos.

Mariga wished them well and expressed gratitude to those who voted for him.

"Earlier today I visited some of my supporters who were injured during the by-election and wished them well and to also thank those who voted for me. As good citizens, we should always maintain peaceful no matter our differences on who we support," he stated in a post on Twitter.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday, November 8, announced Bernard 'Imran' Okoth as the winner of the by-election.

Okoth garnered 24,636 votes, beating Mariga who managed 11,230- a difference of 13,406 votes.

During the mini poll, some incidents of violence were witnessed as a couple of visiting Jubilee MPs were roughed up by goons.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was captured on camera being clobbered by Kibra residents at DC Grounds.

The lawmaker, who was speaking to his Dagoretti North counterpart Simba Arati, had just arrived at when the incident occurred.

A group of youth slapped the MP, pushed him around and removed his signature cap.

Former senator Boni Khalwale was also involved in running battles with Kibra youth. He was captured on camera holding stones and the videos and photos took the internet by storm.

On the other hand, his counterpart Oscar Sudi was chased away from Lindi Mosque polling station.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed explained that Sudi had to jump through the fence to avoid the wrath of some of the Kibra residents.
