ODM MP Mishi Mboko Dragged Into Ksh 312M Scandal

Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko has been dragged in the Ksh312 million Malindi CDF scandal that has been hanging over Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa's head.

Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, summoned Mboko to their headquarters along Kiambu Road for questioning.

According a report by Daily Nation, the Likoni MP is said to have received over Ksh10 million from Jumwa in unclear circumstances.

The money was reportedly transferred to Mboko's account about the same time three firms under investigations received monies from Malindi CDF.

Investigations showed that three companies, Bizcot Limited, Kaseru Construction and Multiserve Contractors all of which are owned by Jumwa’s close relatives, including her children, cumulatively received Ksh178.8 million.

Detectives believed that the money was acquired fraudulently and that the legislator influenced the Malindi CDF committee to award tenders to the said companies.

Mboko spent most of Tuesday at the DCI headquarters, where she was questioned on why Jumwa had transferred the money to her account.

The NMG publication further reported that Mboko had told the sleuths that the money was payment for a debt the Malindi MP owed her.

Part of the money that ended up in Mboko’s accounts is said to have originated from Kaseru Construction, which is partly owned by Jumwa's daughter in law, while the rest came directly from Jumwa’s accounts.

Kaseru, which was registered in January 2014, has for the past four years received Ksh65 million in various tenders from the County Government of Kilifi.

Mboko denied being questioned in connection to the Malindi CDF scandal despite admitting being at the DCI for what she termed as different issues.

“I was there for other reasons but not for the Malindi issue. They haven’t summoned me yet,” she stated.

Aisha Jumwa arrived at the DCI headquarters a few minutes after the departure of her Likoni counterpart where she spent the entire afternoon but declined to speak to the media, citing a gag notice from the sleuths.
