Gangster Linked to University Riot Gunned Down

Police in Bamburi, Mombasa County gunned down a suspected criminal on Wednesday, November 13, hours after students from the Technical University of Mombasa rioted over insecurity. 

According to a report by Baraka FM, the unidentified man was believed to be part of a ten-member gang that had been terrorizing Kisauni and Nyali residents.

"We requested the gang to surrender after a tip-off from residents but they tried to attack police officers with machetes. We gunned down one of them while the other four escaped with gun injuries," Kisauni police boss Julias Kireu affirmed.

Technical University of Mombasa students demonstrate decrying increased insecurity cases on Wednesday, November 12.

According to Kireu, the suspects were walking along the Bamburi-Mtambo junction when they were accosted by police officers.

After the November 13 operation, law enforcers managed to recover three machetes and a knife.

The Kisauni police chief also confirmed that a crackdown to flush out the suspects who escaped with gunshot injuries was already underway in the two sub-counties. 

Students from TUM traversed the streets of Mombasa protesting about rise in crime. 

A student told Kenyans.co.ke that two comrades from the institution were brutally slashed by machete-wielding men on Tuesday, November 12.

"Two days ago (Monday), we lost two of our comrades to thugs," the source revealed adding that the two students who were butchered are fighting for their lives in hospital.

The body of the suspect is lying at Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and a post mortem.
