University Girl Killed After Social Media Fight

A first-year student at Kisumu Polytechnic, Dorcas Jamilla Ouma, was viciously murdered on Tuesday, November 12, following an online altercation with her boyfriend.

According to reports by The Standard, the 27-year-old suspect - a former Maseno University student, was arrested on Wednesday, November 13, after he was found hiding in a thicket just a few metres away from his girlfriend's mutilated body.

One of the eyewitnesses, Angeline Akinyi, narrated how they rushed to the scene along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway after hearing her screams.

She further claimed to have found Jamilla bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds, and that she pointed out her killer before dying as she was being rushed to the hospital.

A DCI officer posted at the Kondele Police Station, Tom Simbiri confirmed the incident, going on to state that Jamilla's body had been taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

The initial reports claimed that the fatal argument between the two lovebirds took place on social media, where the suspect went on to share one final disturbing post before he allegedly committed the gruesome murder.

"Be careful when you love that girl you see on my profile picture. She has killed me. Real love is not there and can never exist," read an excerpt from the suspects' Facebook post.

He went on to blame her as well as her family for his woes.

"I am the first man in her life but now I stink to her and her family who think I will waste their daughter because I am poor," he shared online.

The DCI officer stated that the suspect would be held at the precinct pending a psychiatric test.

In a similar incident in April 2019, Ivy Wangechi's murder at the hands of her alleged boyfriend sparked a national outcry over the increasing number of crimes of passion at Kenyan universities.
