DCI Bust Dangerous Chemical Concealed in Watermelons

A toxic chemical in large quantities that was cleverly concealed was nabbed by Detectives on Saturday, November 16.

In a post by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) the two lorries containing over 13,500 litres of ethanol were seized hidden under watermelons and wheat husks.

"Fifty-four drums of the ethanol were concealed with watermelons and wheat husks," DCI posted.

The two suspicious lorries were found Parked near a bank in Loitoktok, Kajiado county.

According to the sleuths one suspect, Jane Wahu was arrested in the operation.

"The motor vehicles have been detained as investigations commence as to where the ethanol was obtained from and the intended destination," the directorate added.

On April 8, DCI impounded a truck was after the documents indicated that the driver was transporting maize while in fact the truck was loaded with ethanol from Tanzania.

One detective is said to have boarded the truck while the other followed behind in an unmarked car. The truck was later arrested at a checkpoint and towed to the DCI headquarters.

On August 16, two Chinese Nationals were found with 800L of methanol and over 3000L of chang'aa and Busaa.

The Chinese were nabbed at their residence at Green Park in Machakos after the detectives acted on a tip-off from the Public. A Liquor Processing Plant was also found in their homestead.
