K24 TV's Anne Kiguta Forced to Change Show Guests After MP's Boycott

  • K24 TV anchor Anne Kiguta was on Sunday, November 17, was forced to make changes to the line-up of the guests on her show Punchline after an MP threatened to boycott the interview.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua took to social media to express disappointment over the show's decision to have him debate with leaders who had not been elected by the people.

"I was happy for the invite and prepared to appear on the show. This afternoon I am told they have lined others to debate with me, information that was not privy to me. This is not right. They should have made full disclosure. I am unable to turn up for the debate.

"I would have been happy to debate with my fellow elected leaders. Leaders who have a mandate from wananchi. Mediamax should have the ethics to disclose all the guests to those they invite," he stated.

In a graphic shred earlier by the station, the Mathira MP was set to face off against Former Nyeri Woman Representative Priscilla Nyokabi and politician Kilemi Mwiria.

According to the MP, this was not the first time the incident was happening faulting the media house for trying to set him up to debate a politician he had trounced in a previous election.

However in a graphic shared later in the day, Rigathi was st to debate Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, a decision that appeased the MP who had threatened to boycott the show.

"I am happy to get back to the show after the host addressed my concern. I look forward to having an intellectual and informed debate with the Hon. Ngunjiri Wambugu my colleague and friend who has the mandate of Nyeri Town Constituency to exchange views with the one mandated by the great people of Mathira.

"Other than being elected the Hon. Ngunjiri is an informed debater who like me is consistent in what he believes in," he stated on his Facebook account.
