Standard Journalist Whose Daughter Emerged 2nd in KCPE

June Cheptoo Koech - daughter of the Standard Newspaper editor and writer Jonathan Kipkoech Komen, was on Monday, November 18, announced as the top girl in KCPE 2019.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha revealed that Cheptoo had emerged second overall in the entire country with 439 marks.

This was just a single point shy of the best overall performer - Andy Michael Muyiri, who topped the overall standings with 440 marks.

During an interview with KTN News, the ecstatic June went on to thank her father for always pushing her, adding that she wanted to be a news editor in future.

"I want to thank my dad and mum as well for always encouraging me. If it wasn't for them, I don't think I would have made it this far. Every time I thought I had done well, my dad always made sure I knew that I could do better, she stated.

"I'd like to join Pangani school and later on become a professional news editor as well as an actress," she added.

June was part of three candidates who were tied at position two, with  Flavian Onyango and Michael Ndungu also managing a 439 score.

Her father is used to gracing the back page of The Standard for decades, where his in-depth sports articles have earned him the nickname 'Lion'.

However, his daughter's phenomenal fete landed him firmly on the list of the top trends as he received hundreds of congratulatory messages.

CS Magoha released the highly anticipated 2019 KCPE results, leading to unbridled jubilation across various schools.

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chief executive, Nancy Macharia, noted that this year's exam period recorded the least cheating cases in history.

"In terms of malpractices, I am very proud to state that I don't have much to say. There were only two cases of impersonation. None of the exam papers leaked and there were no fake exam papers," a delighted CS Magoha remarked.

This years' national exams ran from November 29 till November 31, with 1,088,986 candidates having sat for this year's national exams.
