Embattled Sonko Responds to Damning Newspaper Headline [AUDIO]

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday, November 22, weighed in on a headline by The Standard newspaper painting him as one of the most dangerous men in the country.

Speaking on phone to Spice FM, Sonko stated that he fully agreed with the assertions by the publication.

"Yes. I am the most dangerous man in the country. People fear me because I fight cartels. The report is a plus for me. I am dangerous to the cartels and getting more powerful day by day," Sonko stated.

The paper had laid bare Sonko's antics in the city, stating that with his money, energy, and chequered past, the governor seemed to be operating above the law.

"He has cowed even top government officers and detectives, a populist whose antics excite some - a master of expletives - his leadership style is suffocating the city. How do you solve a problem like Sonko?" the publication posed.

The governor also made damning allegations during the phone interview, stating that Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja was among the people who were frustrating him.

The senator had on Thursday, November 21 led nine MPs from Nairobi in accusing the Sonko of presiding over a largely dysfunctional Executive and called for a comprehensive forensic audit of the money allocated to the county between 2016 and 2019.

Sakaja's sentiments were echoed by Dagoretti North legislator Simba Arati, who categorically stated that the city had been run down by Sonko's continued antics.

The county chief, however, responded that the accusations were motivated by personal issues and vested interests designed to work against Nairobi residents.

"If we have any surplus money, we give to other agencies like KURA to work for the Nairobians. These accusations about me siphoning money are from individuals that I have blocked from misappropriating the county funds and are now regrouping to fight me," he alleged.
