Kilimani MP Didmus Barasa, on Saturday, November 30, issued a three-day ultimatum to ODM to return the signature hat that he lost in Kibra, failure to which he promised to take action.
The Kimilili legislator was speaking at an event in Bungoma that was also attended by ODM Deputy Party leader Wycliffe Oparanya. He threatened to take over the party headquarters in Bungoma County and repaint the building in red and blue.
“If my hat is not returned in the next three days, we will repaint all ODM offices in Bungoma. This is our bedroom and Raila is not welcome here,” Didmus Barasa told the gathering.
He went on to explain to the crowd that his dispute with ODM Party leader Raila Odinga began when the former prime minister allegedly got Moses Wetangula into problems.
Barasa accused Raila and the ODM party of propagating the same things the recently released Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report sought to bring an end to.
“He [Raila] has brought back all the chaos that the BBI is trying to eradicate. Although we are supporting the BBI. We should not advance the same ills the report is trying to stop,” he continued.
The legislature lost the hat in question when he was roughed up by youths during the Kibera by-elections on November 7.
Barasa had initially accused the Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati of inciting youths to attack him. A claim Arati denied. The two have since then mended fences.
Just days later, during the Thanksgiving ceremony that was held on November 11 at Kibera DC grounds, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was seen wearing a hat similar to that of Barasa.
Junet Mohamed left the crowd in stitches when he told them that he had found the hat in Baba’s bedroom and promised to return it.
Dismus Barasa's ultimatum indicates that the legislator is yet to receive his beloved hat.
