Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua revealed the extent to which former Prime Minister Raila Odinga went to beg for the development of Bondo and Kisumu from former President Mwai Kibaki.
Mutua was answering a question from Alex Mwakideu on the fulfillment of promises by leaders when he joined the renowned radio presenter on Milele FM's breakfast show on Tuesday, December 3.
The Machakos governor stated that it was during his visit to Bondo that he realised the extent to which the former premier had helped develop his home area and in the process fired at former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
"I was in Bondo the other day, I was sent by Baba. I was at a fundraiser for a secondary school, it was well built and installed with all learning equipment," Mutua stated.
He was in Bondo, Siaya County where he attended a fundraiser alongside Cotu secretary-general Francis Atwoli on Saturday, November 30.
"While I was in government, Raila would approach former President Kibaki and beg, beg to have the Kisumu-Bondo Road constructed, the Kisumu airport expanded. But I did not see any leader from my community despite being seniour in the government begging for anything on behalf of the people of Ukambani," he added.
Mutua criticised leaders for making empty promises, in the process revealing how he kept track of his personal mandate to people.
"When I became governor in 2013 I made promises to the people of Machakos. So every time I tick off those I have fulfilled and focus on those I have not," Mutua revealed.
Mutua stated that the inability of leaders to fulfill the promises in their manifestos was a major contributor to the harsh economic times Kenyans were facing.
