MPs' Act of Kindness to Ailing Colleague

Several Members of Parliament on Friday, December 6, visited Juja MP Francis Munyua Waititu alias Wakapee at his home in Juja, in an act of kindness to the MP who has been battling brain cancer.

In a post on facebook, Thika MP Wainaina Jungle revealed that the group of MPs visited Waititu to check on his current condition, indicating that the parliamentarian was responding positively to treatment.

“Together with my National Assembly colleagues, we paid a visit to Hon. Wakapee (Francis Waititu, Juja Constituency), who has been battling cancer,”

“He has just returned from a successful therapy in India, He is much healthier now. God is good,” wrote Wainaina.

The MP further lauded the efforts of local hospitals in the treatment of cancer indicating that local hospitals were closing in the gap in a bid to provide affordable local treatment.

“Thanks to the new KU Referral Hospital, such cases will be screened and treated locally,” wrote the MP.

Among those accompanying Hon. Jungle includes Kiambu women representative Gathoni Wamuchomba, Wanjiku Kibe, Moses Kuria, Ng’ang’a King’ara, Sabina Chege, Jude Njomo, Gender CAS Rachel Shebesh among other leaders.

Speaking to The Standard in August 2018, Waititu narrated his long battle with brain cancer, a disease that has been diagnosed with other members of his family.

The MP gave a sad story of losing his 60-year-old sister in 2016 who was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer and lost the battle to the disease.

The MP later urged his mother to go for a random cancer test and surprising to all, the mother was diagnosed with stage 2 brain cancer.

This led to his mother undergoing treatment to deal with the fast-spreading disease, and an urge for the MP to undertake a check came up from the mother.

Waititu was not lucky too as he was also diagnosed with stage 2 brain cancer, and started treatment from September 2017.

Besides his family worrying about his health, Waititu had to stay away from work for weeks as he underwent treatment in India.

Upon his return to his home constituency, he was also unable to serve his constituents as he would have liked after doctors advised him not to take on a heavy workload.

“I resolved that I was not going to let the disease put me down. I had to fight and God gave me strength and courage,” he remarked.
