Ruto Touches Down After Landslide Rips Through Family's Home 

Deputy President William Ruto made an impromptu visit to  Makueni on Sunday, December 8, just hours after a massive landslide hit Kilamitho village in Mbooni Makueni county.

According to eyewitness reports, the tragic incident left at least 8 fighting for their lives, after being pulled out of the muddy rubble.

A young couple and their daughter are said to have borne the heaviest brunt of the floods, as they were trapped inside their home when the landslide ripped through their house.

"Volunteers were able to pull them out just in the nick of time, and they were then rushed to Mbooni hospital for emergency treatment," read a report shared by County FM.

The latest tragedy came just two days after 40 Lukenya University students survived a road accident after the matatu they were travelling in was swept away by floods at River Kyamela on Emali-Ukia road in Makueni.

According to Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan, the students were travelling from the university's campus in Makueni to Nairobi.

Good Samaritans responded quickly and rescued the passengers and assisted in recovering their belongings.

DP Ruto went on to join the church faithful at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mukuyuni, accompanied by Malindi Member of Parliament, Aisha Jumwa, and her Gatundu South counterpart Moses Kuria. 

On December 1, a seven-year-old-girl died while her 10-year-old- brother was rushed to Kilungu Sub-County Hospital after their houses were hit by mudslides.

According to the Standard, the mudslides were characterised by heavy debris drifts and mudflows from top hills in Kyatuku Village in Kilungu Ward.

In the latest statistics, authorities have confirmed nine people have died in a span of two weeks from flood-related incidents in Makueni county.
