JKIA to be Closed for 1 Hour

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi will be closed for one hour on Thursday, December 12, 2019, as the country celebrates Jamhuri Day.

The closure will also affect flights to and from Wilson Airport.

According to an advisory by Fly 540 to its customers, the two airports will close between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.

"No flights will be allowed to take off or land at JKIA between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.

"If you are travelling with us on that date, your flight may be delayed. We are getting in touch with the affected passengers and advising them accordingly," the advisory stated.

An official at Kenya Airports Authority confirmed the advisory and stated that it was a usual procedure.

In 2017, KAA temporarily shut down Jomo Kenyatta international Airport (JKIA) and ordered for a delay of all flights.

The authority shut down the airport between 11 am and 12 noon to allow the military to perform drills ahead of that year's Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20.

In 2016, JKIA and Wilson Airport were again shut for an hour from 11:20 to allow the military conduct training ahead of the country’s 53rd independence celebrations on December 12.
