Residents in Kiserian, Kajiado County, took to the streets to demonstrate and pile pressure on the police to investigating an officer who was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser believed to have hit a seven-year-old child on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
The area is reported to have been in a state of unrest as residents lit bonfires and blocked the road in protest.
Kajiado West police boss Wanyama told Kenyans.co.ke on December 13, 2019 that the child died while receiving treatment at Meridian Hospital, Kajiado County.
The police vehicle is said to have run into the boy at around 1 pm on Kiserian-Isinya Road.
The body of the deceased was transferred to City Mortuary for a post mortem. He also intimated that the officer who was driving the vehicle was served and the Land Cruiser is undergoing an inspection, as the court process begins.
Wanyama called for peace, advising that there was no need for protests and disrupting business activities.
When asked about the name of the officer and identity of the boy and his family the police boss declined to provide more information.The family is said to be from Naro Moru in Nyeri County.
The Kiserian residents had protested fearing that no tangible action would be taken.
A similar incident was reported on the evening of August 25, 2019, involving a police vehicle ferrying six officers in Rwambiti Village, Kirinyaga County.
The Land Cruiser had collided with a boda boda, crushing both the rider and passenger to death.
Residents set the police car ablaze and demanded justice. However, in a story on the same day by Daily Nation revealed that the Kirinyaga East Police boss Alfred Ng'eno was reported to have defended the police officers in the vehicle, claiming the boda boda rider was at fault.
