Kipchoge Scores Remarkable Double Win

Kenyan legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge has had one of the most remarkable years ever witnessed.

On Saturday, December 14, the only human to have ever run a marathon in under two hours was crowned the BBC World Sport Star of the Year, 2019.

The 1:59 man shrugged off competition from American gymnast Simone Biles, South Africa's Rugby World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi, Australian cricketer Steve Smith, American golfer Tiger Woods and USA footballer Megan Rapinoe, who co-led her team to World Cup victory.

Kipchoge emerged head and shoulders above the rest in the exercise carried out through an online public vote.

Kenyans had caused quite a stir online after being unable to vote for their man, with most reporting on running into a 'this vote is not available in your location' error message when they tried to cast their vote.

The latest award came just a few hours after he was granted an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree by the University of Exeter.

On their website, the university heaped praise on Kipchoge, a clear indication that the world champion continued to attract accolades from all over the world.

"Eliud Kipchoge is seen as the greatest marathon runner of all time. During an unparalleled career, the Kenyan distance-running great has won 11 out of 12 official marathon races, claiming the Olympic title, eight Marathon Major victories (four London, three Berlin, and one Chicago Marathon) and is also the owner of the official world record," read an excerpt of the university's statement regarding the Kenyan phenom.

The marathoner delivered his 'moon-landing' moment by crossing the finish line in a mind-blowing 1:59:40 in Vienna, as he delivered on his pledge to prove 'No Human Is Limited.

He was also recognized with an Honorary Doctorate in Science by the Laikipia University on December 6, recognizing his contribution to the field of sports.

The Olympic marathon champion and World Marathon record holder was also crowned as the 2019 World Athletics Male Athlete of the year on November 23, beating four other contestants to retain the award during the World Athletics Gala in Monaco.
