Puzzle of Elderly House Party Host Strangled By Chief, Aides

Maraa sub-location chief in Meru County, Peter Kaburia, alongside five village elders jointly accused of brutally killing a bodaboda rider will spend an extra week in remand as directed by Justice Francis Gikonyo on December 17, 2019.

According to a report by the Daily Nation, the slain bodaboda rider identified as Mzee Samuel M'Marangu was brutally maimed and left for dead in Mitinguu area in Meru County on the evening of November 13, 2019.

On the fateful evening, Marangu was reported to have been hosting a group of his friends to celebrate the recovery of a motorcycle that he had reported stolen in Tigania. It was during this party that he served his guests the alleged illicit brew identified as Mugacha.

According to police reports, the six who had been fighting against illicit liquor consumption in the area took justice into their own hands and decided to go after the bodaboda rider at his home in Imenti South.

The six were reported to have stormed into the compound and forced Marangu out of his home. It was then that they were said to have seriously beaten the rider and left him for dead.

Bernard Mbui, who is one of the witnesses, said he found the maimed rider along the road unable to walk. Upon trying to assist Samuel, he began vomiting blood with blood oozing from his nose and a foaming mouth, before he became unconscious.

This is when he is believed to have died before he could reach Consolata Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to a doctor at the facility identified as Gitaki, the autopsy done on the deceased provided that he had died from asphyxia secondary to chest and neck compression.

The six suspects are; Maraa Sub-location chief, Peter Kaburia, elders Cosmas Marimi, Zaverio Atugi, Zaverio Mugeria, Rugina Wairura and Geoffrey Muna.

The six have been in remand since their arrest in November after pleading not guilty to the murder charges in order to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
