Waiguru Copies Uhuru's Leadership Style

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Wednesday, December 18,  officially launched a county Service Delivery Unit (SDU) which she directed to be carrying out weekly audits on all programs and projects under her administration.

Waiguru's SDU takes a leaf directly from the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) that was established by President Uhuru Kenyatta to monitor government projects.

The unit, which sits in the Office of the Governor under the leadership of the County Chief of Staff, Sellah Bogonko, brings together members of the County Executive Committee and key departmental officials.

Formation of the SDU was one of the resolutions that all governors passed during the 6th Annual Devolution Conference held in Kirinyaga in March 2019.

"This team will be visiting projects to identify and address any bottlenecks hindering their smooth implementation and timely completion of the projects," the governor noted.

SDU will also be tasked with engaging members of the public and various project stakeholders to get their views and assess their satisfaction levels with the services offered by the county government.

It will also evaluate project implementation progress to ensure that all projects are completed within their timelines and that they met their objectives and positively impacted on the public.

In an interview in her office, the governor revealed that creating a conducive environment for traders to carry out their activities was a priority for her government.

She also added that the interdepartmental team needed to follow up to ensure that concerns raised by the public were addressed satisfactorily.

During Jamhuri Day Celebrations held at Kiamutugu Secondary School, the Governor reiterated her commitment to offering accountable and transparent leadership and demanded that all county government officials demonstrate the same commitment in their service to the public.

"My government is already actualising the dream of transforming Kirinyaga into an economic hub in the spirit of ‘Kirinyaga Rising’ clarion call," Governor Waiguru added.

On Monday, December 16, the SDU led by the CEC for Trade, Margaret Mithamo, visited Kagumo Market where they interacted with traders in order to hear their grievances and better understand how to address them.

“At the same time, when we provide efficient services to the traders, it will enhance revenue collection and traders will get value for their money”, remarked Mithamo.

Other projects marked for the weekly monitoring and evaluation exercises include health facilities and those within the Department of Agriculture.
