IG Mutyambai Issues Warning to All Passengers During Christmas

Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Thursday, December 19, issued a stern warning to passengers who will be travelling to various parts of the country during the festive season.

While speaking to the press, Mutyambai cautioned passengers against traveling in excess in both public and private means of transport.

"I would like to warn passengers against being in excess both in private or PSV vehicles effective today. We will deal with the excess passengers in our roadblocks.

"It does not matter from which point, the vehicle will continue with its destination as the passenger remains behind," he warned.

Mutyambai further directed the police to take action with immediate effect, citing that no passenger should blame the conductor or driver for not having an assigned seat.

He went ahead and warned motorists against drunk driving as well as overspeeding.

The IG also asked those intending to travel to various parts of the country to make security arrangements before leaving, advising them not to leave their homes unattended.

He also gave police toll numbers that citizens could use in case they encountered any problems while on transit.

"You can call 999, 911 or 211 in case you are in need of any assistance," he concluded.
