CS Magoha Set For International Award After KCSE Results Release

Education CS George Magoha was named as a finalist in the 2019 Global Citizen Awards.

According to a report by Daily Nation, Magoha was nominated in the Global Citizen of the Year category. 

The award honours individuals with an exceptional drive and impact on the eradication of poverty and their contribution towards global sustainability.

The awards were organised by the Global Citizen organisation with the aim of championing collaboration between men and women who are epitomes of society, in the drive for social change around the world.

The ceremony will be held at the Royal Albert Hall and will be televised on December 20 in the US and December 27 on MTV Africa.

Magoha was nominated for his commitment and policies towards building and strengthening institutions he's served in.

The publication highlighted that while at the University of Nairobi, Magoha expanded the institution's research fund, which facilitated the construction of a research laboratory for communicable diseases.

He was also commended for his stint at the helm of the education sector in Kenya. Under his regime, Magoha successfully managed to curb the country-wide corruption in the national examinations, restoring credibility to the education system.

The Education CS was recognised for his significant impact in transforming Kenya's healthcare and education systems.

In the 2018 edition of the awards that were held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Wawira Njiru, founder and executive director of Food for Education, was feted with the Cisco Youth Leadership Award.

Her foundation provides food for underprivileged students across the country.
