2019 proved challenging for these individuals who got axed from their powerful positions by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
From corruption allegations to underperformance, President Kenyatta did not hesitate to hand them consequences of their actions.
Kenya Ferry Services Board Members
On Wednesday, October 16, President Uhuru Kenyatta fired all board members at Kenya Ferry Services.
In a gazette notice on the same date, the president revoked the appointment of the board members following the death of two victims, Mariam Kighenda and her nine-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu at Likoni Ferry.
The board members included; Dan Mwazo, Daula Omar, Naima Amir, Philip Ndolo and Rosina Nasigha Mruttu.
Rashid Echesa
As the president reshuffled his Cabinet on Friday, March 1, he fired the then Sports CS Rashid Echesa.
The president then appointed then Sports CS Amina Mohammed to replace him and appointed Professor George Magoha to take over the Education Ministry.
"In accordance with Article 152(5) of the Constitution, as read together with Article 152(1)(d) of the Constitution, the appointment of Rashid Echesa Mohamed, as a Cabinet Secretary has been vacated," read a statement in the Executive Order No.3 of 2019.
Fatuma Hirsi
In just a period of nine months, Ms Hirsi was fired twice; on Friday, March 1, 2019, and May 30, 2018.
Ms Hirsi, on Friday, March 1, was sacked by the president as the Broadcasting and Telecommunications PS at the ICT ministry.
"In accordance with Article 155 of the Constitution, the appointment of Mrs Fatuma Hirsi, as a Principal Secretary has been vacated," read a statement.
Previously, in 2018, she was informed that her contract was not renewed as the Tourism PS following President Kenyatta’s election for his final term.
“Your employment contract has been terminated forthwith. You will be paid your salary up to June 30, which will be your last working day,” read a letter by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
Henry Rotich and Kamau Thugge
The president suspended Henry Rotich as Treasury CS and appointed Labour and Social Protection CS Ukur Yattani in an acting capacity.
He also fired Kamau Thugge as Treasury PS and replaced him with Dr Julius Monzi Muia.
The two were among 26 government officials who were implicated in the Kimwarer and Arror Dams scandal.
Susan Koech
In yet another mini-reshuffle on Friday, September 6, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta dropped Ministry of Tourism PS Susan Koech.
Ms Koech was fired after being implicated in the Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal, which also involved Henry Rotich and his then PS Kamau Thugge.
Former Irrigation PS Fred Segor replaced her in the ministry.
